what’s in a name?

A common question I am asked is “Your business name is so cute, what does it mean?”  While living in downtown Chicago and attending culinary school in 2004, my dad, Joe, would frequently send me silly greeting cards, and always with a $20 bill inside due to him being certain I needed to go ‘buy groceries’.  (Photographic evidence of me during this time suggests lack of food was not something I suffered from.) One day while scouring the stacks for an unrelated celebration, I happened across a card of a bird family: Mother Bird, Father Bird and Baby Bird.  The Mother Bird prepared to send her Baby Bird off into the big world, while Father Bird slipped Baby Bird an extra $20 just in case. How perfect was this?! I scratched out the official Birthday message and mailed it to him as a Just Because. He kept this card for over 13 years, propped up on his office desk.  When brainstorming names for my business, there was no better choice.

The Baby Bird Bakery opened in 2017, and the greeting card that started it all now hangs on the wall in my studio.

When not making cakes, I am a full-time servant to two freeloading senior cats, Olive & Pickles. I enjoy bar trivia, retro video games, taco nights, ridiculous TikTok video sharing with friends, escape rooms, and attending pre-release film screenings with my ‘movie group’.  One of my biggest passions is traveling! I’m always on the lookout for the next exciting adventure, and am particularly fond of Disneyland, Disney World, cruising, and any and every rollercoaster I can find--the taller, the faster, the better! I've ridden a camel in Morocco, got lost in the subways of Madrid, four-wheeled the rocky terrain of Aruba, swam with wild stingrays in Antigua, raced dune buggies up and down 150 ft sand dunes on Oregon’s coastline, ziplined the canopies of St Thomas, gone scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, eaten wattleseed ice cream in the middle of Australia’s Daintree Rainforest, bungy jumped out of a pod suspended some 400 ft in the air in the canyons of Queenstown, New Zealand, and later nerded out on a Lord of the Rings filming location tour in Wellington.

Perhaps Adrenaline Junkie Bakery would have been more fitting?

I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with you!
